Photographer David Neel (Kwagiutl) is best known for his intimate portrait photographs, but his skill as a carver is not far behind. His work is based on the traditions of his family and people, yet reflects his personal interest in contemporary history. "I'm interested in where we live and what we do as people. I think that's one of the major roles of an artist, Native or non-Native."
